OPCMIA Local Unions and their Apprenticeship Programs were active participants in National Apprenticeship Week, a nationwide celebration showcasing the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeships for training the next generation of plasterers and cement masons to be the most skilled, trained, professional workforce in history, held November 14-20, 2022.
Among many OPCMIA-organized events, Local 18 in Springfield, Illinois held a Job Fair, where more than 2,000 students came to participate in hands-on activities, and Local 132 in Dayton, Ohio, received a proclamation from the Montgomery County Commission.
“For us, every week is apprenticeship week,” said OPCMIA Director of Training, Health , and Safety Tony Longbrake. “We’re grateful that the U.S. Department of Labor proclaimed National Apprenticeship Week and shined a spotlight on the outstanding work our training programs are doing to produce the most skilled, most productive, and safest plasterers and cement masons in the world and to diversify the construction workforce. We’re proud of all the OPCMIA Apprenticeship Programs that participated in this important event.”
