OPCMIA-ITF Hosts EIFS Train-the-Trainer Program in Partnership with Sto Corp.

Atlanta, GA – May 22, 2025 — The Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association International Training Fund (OPCMIA-ITF), in collaboration with Sto Corp., conducted an EIFS Train-the-Trainer program in Atlanta, Georgia, from May 20–22, 2025. The comprehensive training blended hands-on instruction with classroom-based learning, featuring the AWCI EIFS—Doing It Right, Second Edition program and live demonstrations of all key components of the EIF System by Sto Corp.

Twelve OPCMIA plastering instructors from across the United States participated in the event, earning their EIFS Mechanic Certificates while deepening and refreshing their knowledge of the Exterior Insulation and Finish System.

The OPCMIA-ITF extends its sincere gratitude to Karine Galla and Wade Tompkins of Sto Corp. for their vital role in developing and delivering the training, as well as to Annemarie Selvitelli and Thao Nguyen of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (AWCI) for facilitating the EIFS—Doing It Right program.

Participants also toured Sto’s manufacturing plant, gaining behind-the-scenes insights into how EIFS materials are produced, packaged, and distributed globally.

One participating instructor shared, “After 28 years as a plasterer, I learned more about EIFS during this training than I ever knew before.” ITF Plastering Instructor Anthony Kerstens, who led the classroom portion, noted, “What could be better than partnering directly with the manufacturer and hearing them explain the ‘why’ behind the proper application of their materials?”

Looking ahead, the OPCMIA-ITF plans to build on the success of this training by collaborating with other EIFS manufacturers nationwide. “The instructors are excited to integrate new techniques and insights into their apprenticeship programs,” said Tim Nelson, ITF Plastering Coordinator. “We encourage all plasterers who meet the qualifications to take part in the AWCI EIFS—Doing It Right, Second Edition program and earn their EIFS Mechanic certification.”
